R.I.P. My Dog Ruby

We got Ruby after a traumatizing period that left us all so unfeeling. We were kids who lost some humanity in this move to California that left us wondering if comfort and attachment to life would just lead to pain. Should we all be drifters... The hot sun dried up a lot of the tear storage we once used so casually for things like groundings and crushes.

Ruby was our innocence restored. Fourteen years later and there is no way to thank her enough. No way to say what it all means and not be drowned out by tragic deaths of someone's father or child. Mourning the death of an animal is almost shameful. People don't realize it is the death of something so much more. This is the end of my childhood. The end of the warmth that let me stay safe in this life and continue being a kid a little longer.

I can't thank her enough.

"It is better they leave us behind than we leave them behind." My Dad

"Don't be sad it is over, be glad it happened." Dr.Seuss

Love you Ruby. Hope we made it worth your while.

So sorry to hear! I've had many pets in my lifetime and I will admit it never gets easier because each one is different. But by the way you spoke in this post, I believe you gave Ruby an AMAZING life. I'm sure she is very happy to have met you and your family and you took her in to your lives. It worked out for the better for everyone. Sadly the same cannot be said for a lot of animals. But you made that difference in a dog's life. And I'm sure she is eternally grateful.

You may have seen this story before but I think it's a good read. Because no matter what, we love our animals and we make each other happy.

I'm so sorry to hear that, I know how hard it is to lose a dog and when people say "it's just a dog (or cat, or whatever animal)" that annoys me because it is rubbish, animals are so much more than that, they are a part of the family and mean everything. I'm sure your little Ruby is happy and running free now looking down on you :) xxxx

I am so sorry. About a week and a half ago we said goodbye to my 16 year old Siberian husky. I totally understand your sentiment - I sobbed and sobbed until I was hoarse. It's the loss of childhood.

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was a very important part of your life and well loved.

It's always hard to say good bye to an animal friend.

So sorry for your loss. I have a dog who is also getting old and realizing someday probably soon I'll have to say goodbye. That doesn't make it easier.

I'm sure Ruby had an uh-MAZING life with you and your family, and that her little doggy spirit is bragging in pet heaven about how great you guys are :)

Stay strong!
Your devoted reader,
Illy Mooncat

I know just what you mean. When I lost my sweet boy Yankee I thought that I would die. I had him for 14 1/2 years of love and kindness. He passed away 5 years ago and I still miss him like it was yesterday. He was a member of the family. I'm sorry for your loss.
